Als 1989 der Aktivist Buggin Out in Spike Lee´s Film “Do the Right Thing” fordert, das auch Schwarze Vorbilder in der Wall of Fame von Sal´s Pizzeria aufgenommen werden, war die Forderung nach einer Wende in der Erinnerungskultur endgültig in der Pop-Kultur angekommen. Während jedoch 1989 in Ost- und in West-Deutschland solche Forderungen nur Wenige im Umfeld von Hip-Hop und Selbst-Empowerment formulierten, sind 2021 diese Diskurse auch hier durch Black Lives Matter und dekoloniale Widerstände z.B. gegen das Humboldt-Forum weiter in die Mitte der Gesellschaft gerückt.
Was hat das mit Berlin Global Village zu tun?
Nun, vor diesem Hintergrund will auch Berlin Global Village notwendige dekoloniale Schritte eines Paradigmenwechsels beschreiten: Voraussichtlich im Sommer 2022 nach Fertigstellung der Renovierung des Altbaus wird es im Erdgeschoss von Altbau und Neubau insgesamt fünf Veranstaltungsräume unterschiedlicher Größe geben, die nach Menschen benannt werden sollen, die eine Vorbildfunktion für die dekoloniale Ausrichtung des Eine-Welt-Zentrums darstellen können.
30.09.2021 Einsendeschluss des Mitmach-Wettbewerbs
Vom 15. September bis 30. September sind alle aus dem Kiez und aus der Stadt zum Mitmachen aufgerufen! Wir freuen uns über jegliche Vorschläge für mögliche Namenspat*innen, die den Kriterien “Vielfalt” und “dekolonial” entsprechen. Maximal 5 Namensvorschläge sollen eingereicht werden. Es können aber auch weniger Vorschläge sein. Die Vorschläge werden von den Sprecher*innen des Rates für Diversity und soziale Inklusion (RDSI) von Berlin Global Village durchgesehen, ob die vorgeschlagenen Menschen den Kriterien „dekolonial“ und „Vielfalt“ entsprechen. Der RDSI entscheidet aber noch nicht, ob beispielsweise Desmond-Tutu-Raum der bessere Name ist oder ob Vandana-Shiva-Saal gute Chancen als Name für einen der Veranstaltungsräume bei Berlin Global Village hat.
25.10.2021 Konsensierungsworkshop für die finale Entscheidung
Ihr könnt Euch schon einmal den 25.10.2021, 16-18 Uhr, in Eurem Kalender vormerken. Das ist der Tag an dem in Berlin Global Village der Konsensierungsworkshop stattfindet, in dem die finalen Entscheidungen unter Anleitung der erfahrenen Moderator*in Adela Mahling darüber getroffen werden, welche fünf Namen es sein werden. Der Workshop ist offen für alle, die mit entscheiden wollen, mit welchen Namen Berlin Global Village in Zukunft verbunden sein wird.
Rechtsweg ausgeschlossen
Alle Vorschläge kommen in die Auslosung. Als Preis winkt die kostenlose Buchung eines Veranstaltungsraumes (4 Stunden) für Veranstaltungen oder einfach für Deine Feier. Der Rechtsweg ist wie immer ausgeschlossen.

Paradigm Shift
When in 1989 the activist Buggin Out in Spike Lee’s film Do the Right Thing demanded that Black role models also be included in the Wall of Fame of Sal’s Pizzeria – the demand for a turnaround in memory culture had finally arrived in pop culture. However, while in 1989 in East and West Germany only a few formulated such demands in the environment of hip-hop and self-empowerment, – in 2021 these discourses have also moved further into the center of society here through Black Lives Matter and decolonial resistance against the Humboldt Forum.
What does this have to do with Berlin Global Village?
Well, against this background Berlin Global Village also wants to take necessary decolonial steps of a paradigm shift: Presumably in the summer of 2022, after completion of the renovation of the old building, there will be a total of five event rooms of different sizes on the first floor of the old building and the new building, which will be named after people who can serve as role models for the decolonial orientation of the One World Center.
30.09.2021 Closing date for the participatory competition
From September 15 to September 30, individuals from BGV’s member clubs and all those renting from BGV are invited to participate. But also all other people from Neukölln and all of Berlin can participate. And also all those who are simply interested in developmental and decolonial topics. A maximum of 5 proposals should be submitted. But there can also be less proposals. The proposals will be reviewed by the spokespersons of the Council for Diversity and Social Inclusion (RDSI) of Berlin Global Village to see if the proposed people meet the criteria “decolonial” and “diversity”. However, the RDSI does not yet decide whether, for example, Desmond Tutu Room is the better name, or whether Vandana Shiva Room has a good chance as a name for one of the event spaces at Berlin Global Village.
25.10.2021 Consensus workshop for the final decision
You can already mark the 25.10.2021, 16-18 h, in your calendar. This is the day when the consensus workshop will take place at Berlin Global Village, where the final decisions will be made under the guidance of the experienced moderator Adela Mahling about which five names will be chosen. The workshop is open to everyone who wants to help decide which names Berlin Global Village will be associated with in the future.
Legal process excluded
All suggestions will be entered into a draw. The prize is the free booking of an event room (4 hours) for events or simply for your celebration. As always, the legal process is excluded.
